In the international breast cancer month of October, the Women and Health Working Group in Nuremberg are organising, for the first time, a series of events on the subject of breast health. Under the motto “Breast – Desire – Health” a wide range of events for women of all ages will be held from October to the beginning of November 2020. The working group is a network in which the Women’s Representative of the City of Nuremberg and various women’s organisations and advice centres in Nuremberg work together.
Every year, around 75,000 women in Germany are diagnosed with breast cancer. This makes breast cancer the most common malignant tumour in women. About 17,000 patients die from the consequences. “The current figures from the German Cancer Society show that the topic has not lost any of its urgency: At present, on average one in eight women will develop breast cancer in the course of their lives,” says Hedwig Schouten, Commissioner for Women and Equality of the City of Nuremberg. If breast cancer is detected early, the chances of recovery are usually good.
