This year English Post Nuremberg embarked upon a quest to find and promote new writing talent amongst the upcoming generation. To this end, we formed a collaboration with the Deutsch American Institute in Nuremberg and set up a programme called “Next Gen News” calling for young people to write an article in English which could then be published in English Post Nuremberg.
The Deutsch American Institute is a registered association supported by the American government and has fostered German-American friendship since 1946. Their offices in the Gleißbühlstraße 9, in Nürnberg serve as a meeting point for events as well as having the largest English language library in the region.
With 10 participants the first Next Gen News seminar took place at the DAI in June 2024. Solana and Jenthe from the DAI prepared presentations providing information on how to write an article – selecting a subject, researching information, planning the structure and the use of writing tools.
At a second meeting in July, participants presented subject areas they were interested in and discussed the potential for an article. The participants then wrote their articles over the summer, presented them in September, and on successful completion received a certificate.
Today we are proud to publish two excellent articles due to this “Next Gen News” project. These are “The Road to a German Driving License” written by Jennifer Balzer and Anatol Kuleshov, and “Beyond the Surface” written by Dania Al-Allow about the struggles of disabled people in Nuremberg.
English Post Nuremberg is always looking for writing talent in and around the region. If you are interested in writing articles for English Post please contact us at editor@enlgishpost.de
